Long Island Scene
Written, edited and published by Cat Troiano.
Welcome to Long Island Scene, the online publication about Long Island for Long Islanders past and present.
Long Island is my home and my passion. With its rich tapestry of cultural history and such a vast array of places to explore, I have chosen to publish this site with the goal of sharing Long Island’s riches.
While first inhabited thousands of years ago by the Native Americans, Suffolk County, where I reside, was first settled by families from the New England colonies who migrated across the Long Island Sound to Eastern Long Island. In 1640, the first towns of Southold and Southampton were settled. Over the 23-year span that followed, the towns of East Hampton, Shelter Island, Huntington, Brookhaven and Smithtown were all established, in that order. Suffolk County was later joined by the towns of Islip in 1720, Riverhead in 1792 and Babylon in 1872.
Long Island Scene is produced in celebration of all that Long Island has to offer from its lush vineyards to its sandy shores. When you’re seeking some weekend fun, check back in for seasonal articles and information that will guide you to festivals, restaurants, outdoor activities and exploration. While this publication will focus primarily on Suffolk County, occasional attractions of Nassau County will be featured as well.
Be sure to check back in regularly for new and timely posts and to follow the Facebook page where Long Islanders can interact and comment on what’s happening day to day across the island. Check out the Let’s Chat feature and share your personal stories and photos that depict your Long Island happenings and memories. Long Island is comprised of over 300 years of stories, and those experiences continue to include yours today.
