From Manhattan to Huntington to Rocky Point to Jamesport, spectators line the streets to observe the St. Patrick’s Day parades. Restaurants, bars and households serve up traditional corned beef dinners, and nothing quite strikes the celebratory spirit like a pint of Irish beer. Be sure to make a stop at Long Ireland Brewery in Riverhead for a growler of Celtic Ale to toast your St. Patrick’s Day dinner.
In the summer of 2011, Greg and Dan realized their dream and opened the tasting room of Long Ireland Beer Company on Pulaski Street in Riverhead. Calling on their passion for good beer, the two friends began brewing Celtic Ale more than two years before that, filling up the kegs and casks with the Irish ale on February 28, 2009. The first keg was sold on the very next day, and the flagship beer has anchored success for the brewery ever since.
The brew masters declare that their Celtic Ale was not created as an Irish Red, but rather as a traditional, Irish ale brewed in the centuries old traditions of Ireland. Each sip of the amber beer is a delightful experience of smooth and sweet, the result of four different malts, oats and honey on the ingredient list. The light body and crisp finish make this an excellent choice for toasting the luck of the Irish over corned beef and potato pancakes or for sipping in the backyard on the first warm spring day as you kick off the season’s premier barbecue.
For an extra special treat, the brewery relegated a limited batch of Celtic Ale to age in whiskey barrels. Celtic Ale is one of six of their beers to get the aging treatment, and these creations joined the tap lineup on February 21 for a Whiskey Weekend event.
You won’t need to chase down a leprechaun or follow the skirling bagpipes to find Celtic Ale. You can visit the Long Ireland Beer Company’s tasting room to sample Celtic Ale and the rest of their current portfolio, and take home a growler for your enjoyment. Celtic Ale is also poured on tap in a number of bars and restaurants across the island, and the beer may be purchased in bottles at various beverage stores, including Bellport Cold Beer and Soda.
You can visit Long Ireland Beer Company at 817 Pulaski Street in Riverhead. You can also visit their website for directions, hours of operation and planned events at www.longirelandbrewing.com
