This Saturday marks the sixth annual Lighting of the Montauk Lighthouse event. On this day, the lighthouse museum and gift shop will open at 11:00am, and the last tower climb will take place at 2:00pm before the tower closes for the season. The holiday lighting ceremony will take place between 4:30 and 7:00pm. Melodic strains of holiday carols will drift through the air, Santa is expected to make his anticipated appearance, and the 7,000 white lights that outline the structural facets of the lighthouse and its soaring tower will be illuminated. The majestic site will greet all spectators on land and sea every night thereafter until January 1, 2014.
Alternately, celebrate Christmas At the Lighthouse on Sunday, December 1st. The lighthouse will be decked out in holiday splendor, carols will be performed between 2-3pm by Sarah Conway and the Christmas trio, the gift shop will welcome holiday shoppers, face painting and pony rides will be available for the kids and families will have the chance for those coveted photo opportunities with Santa. Hot chocolate, hot cider and cookies will also be offered. The event takes place from 11:00am to 4:00pm, and admission to the museum is free of charge on this day.

A number of East end structures sparkle throughout the holiday season, from Long Island’s symbolic Big Duck in Flanders to the windmills that adorn the towns of Sag Harbor and East Hampton. This year, instead of taking the family for a drive through your immediate neighborhood, take a leisurely ride east. Let the light displays and cultural icons that define our twin forks put a spark in your holiday spirit.
